How To Teach Your Dog To Behave!

When you first brought your dog home, you were probably having visions of Lassie, but there have probably been days that you were remembering Cujo more. You can tackle these behavior issues and train your dog to behave.

Have your dog learn to just hold one of his toys in his mouth, instead of chewing on it immediately. Use a clicker to give the dog a treat whenever the dogs uses his mouth to hold a toy. Once he has done it a couple of times, you should wait until they put the toy into their mouth. When the toy is in his mouth, use the clicker and give a reward. After that, only give the reward if he does hold the toy in his mouth.

Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. A sense of play brings you and your dog together. This bond makes the dog more responsive to your commands and training him easier. While training can be fun, try having play time with your dog every day for a period of time.

If you are working on crate training your indoor puppy or dog, you can always try a few tricks. If they don't want to go in the crate, try luring them in with a treat or chew bone. Your dog will want the bone and will be unable to resist entering the crate. Give your dog some praise when he gets inside, so that he further associates being in the crate with good behavior.

You must understand what will motivate your dog if you want to be able to train him. You will also get educated about what your dog likes or doesn't like, and what will work and what won't. All dogs respond well to positive reinforcement, so keep this in mind while training you dog. Any time your dog is happy, you will find they have a better performance.

Prior to ever leaving your dog at home alone for a considerable length of time, make sure he has a good long walk. If you are able to tire your pets out, they will not be as anxious when it is time for you to go.

If you have to keep your dogs outside, never tie them up too close to one another. Doing so could cause injuries to the dogs if they become entangled in the chains and attempt to free themselves. It can even be fatal if you tie a large dog up with a small dog, and the large dog ends up getting a chain wrapped around the small dog's neck.

Whenever you have visitors, it is okay to inform them of the best way to interact with your pet. As a result, your dog might want to show he is the boss or jump on people who come to your home.

When training your dog never punish him; doing so will only make him be resistant to any further training. You should take steps to help your pet avoid bad behavior, but if he makes a mistake help him understand correct actions. Build a positive relationship with your dog during the training process.

If your dog has specific triggers for bad behavior, keep him busy as you pass temptation. Alternatively stated, when your pet dislikes the company of other animals, try to distract him or her whenever you encounter them out in the neighborhood. This will allow him to make the relation between the positive stimuli and positive things happening.

The key to effective training is to ensure that your dog's activity level remains consistently high. Dogs are not made to sit around. They must run and play in order to enjoy a healthy, happy life. There are many options for activity, such as going running, playing with toys outside or even agility classes. Dogs get bored easily and it's your job to keep that from happening, so always provide activities to keep it moving.

While some dogs train well together, it depends entirely on each pup's personality; training two dogs simultaneously may prove impossible. If your dogs do not focus on you properly when you train them together, you may want to separate them and give them some individual attention before trying to work with them jointly.

Try training a dog to clench a plush toy in his mouth. Every time he successfully holds onto the toy with his mouth, hit the clicker and proceed by giving him a treat. After this is done a few times, watch and wait for your dog to put the toy inside his mouth. After has has done this, you should click and promptly give a reward. After this, you should only reward your dog after he holds the toy in his mouth.

Many times dog owners are surprised to see they can easily train their dog on an everyday basis and promptly see the results. If you are feeling some tension and stress with your canine friend, give these helpful hints a chance.
