Easy Ways to Train Your Dog

Your dog can be taught and trained how to act properly and drop very annoying habits. If not trained completely out of a dog, they can at least be corrected with the following information in this article. With right obedience training, even the most rowdy behavior can be corrected.

To make sure your dog pays attention to you, you should use its name as often as possible. By using it as much as possible during the first weeks you own him, your puppy will learn that this sound is in reference to him. Select a name that is short and distinctive.

Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. A sense of play brings you and your dog together. This bond makes the dog more responsive to your commands and training him easier. While training can be fun, try having play time with your dog every day for a period of time.

Teaching a puppy their name is one of the first steps to undertake and creates a lasting bond. You will want to use his name quite frequently, so he learns it and will come to you when you use it. You should teach your puppy these words first. Try to spend a good amount of time with your new dog. This will help them become more receptive to harder training later.

You should always walk your dog before leaving your house for long periods of time. Not only do you want your dog to relieve himself, but you also want to make him tired so he relaxes and doesn't suffer from anxiety while you're gone.

Avoid playing tug-of-war games with your puppy during training. Tug-of-war, chasing games, and games that involve wrestling can all make the puppy think that biting human hands is acceptable. You don't want them doing that, so you should wait until they are older and more mature to play those games.

Taking an obedience class will help you train your puppy properly. Instructors can help you teach your dog tricks, to listen to your commands, and to behave appropriately.

If there are certain things that set your dog off causing bad behavior, then keep his mind focused on other things as you pass by what provokes this bad behavior. Try distracting your dogs from other dogs while on your walks. This can help reinforce good behavior.

Everyone should treat your dog in the same way so as not to confuse him. Dogs will learn quicker from training that has all people treating them the same way. If someone is training the dog one way and someone else tries something different, the dog will become confused on how to behave properly.

When training your dog, use discretion and regard for your dog's attention span. Spending too much time just on one aspect of training will bore your dog and waste your efforts. Training sessions should be limited to about 10 minutes of time or less.

You never want to give your dog a punishment during training. If he misbehaves, correct him, but most importantly, you should try to prevent that behavior from happening to begin with. A positive relationship between you and your dog is what makes training work.

Use your dog's name whenever you are offering it a treat. To have some good control over your dog, a solid response is crucial. Call your dog by name 10 times each day until he readily responds to your voice with no further encouragement. Don't punish your dog if it comes when you call.

Try training a dog to clench a plush toy in his mouth. Every time he successfully holds onto the toy with his mouth, hit the clicker and proceed by giving him a treat. After this is done a few times, watch and wait for your dog to put the toy inside his mouth. After has has done this, you should click and promptly give a reward. After this, you should only reward your dog after he holds the toy in his mouth.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.
